Adopt Berani

Berani means ‘brave’ in Indonesian. As the Sumatran tiger faces extinction in the near future if we do not act to save them, we hope the bravery of this species helps them to win this battle.

Our goal is to protect Berani, his territory and prey, so he survive and sire cubs for the next generation of tigers in BTPNP. Please, can you help him?

Berani, a stunning male tiger, lives in the hilly southern tip of the Bukit Tigapuluh National Park and into the lowland areas of the ex-logging concessions known as Hatma Hutani, Manggatal and Dalek Esa. These concessions surround the southern sections of the national park. This is the area of both the Orangutan Sanctuary and Orangutan Release Site supported by The Orangutan Project (See areas marked in blue, yellow and green on the map). Being a male, Berani’s territory is much larger than females. His territory overlaps both the territories of Cinta and Langka, both tigresses in the ITP adoption programme.

The young male tiger faces his most challenging time when he leaves his mother and seeks to find his own territory. Resident males have been observed to tolerate subordinate males in their range, but in general, resident males exclude other males. Most young males are forced to live in less favourable habitat, biding their time until they can displace a resident male and gain their own territory. This usually occurs when the resident male gets too old or suffers severe injury.
