How Dina is Saving Forests–And How You Help!

Meet Dina–a powerful, dedicated Forest Security Ranger and a true forest hero!

Dina works in Bukit Tigapuluh, Sumatra. One of the last wild homes for Sumatran orangutans, elephants, tigers, and many more precious species.

Every day, Dina and her team patrol the forests. They stop illegal activities, protect wildlife from poachers, and keep forests standing strong. They are the last line of defence, and it’s your kindness that keeps them there.

We're excited to celebrate Dina, her amazing ranger team–and you. Because you’re part of this too. Your support keeps rangers like Dina in the field, protecting wildlife and forests every single day.

Meet Dina

Dina was inspired to become a Forest Ranger to help protect rainforests from illegal logging, one of the biggest threats to their survival.

“I want to contribute to ensuring that forests remain sustainable so that their natural function as life-supporting ecosystems is preserved,” she says.

Keeping forests alive and thriving keeps orangutans and all wildlife safe. And that’s exactly what Dina wants to achieve.

“For me, protecting forests and wildlife is not only about saving nature, but also about preserving the balance of ecosystems and safeguarding our natural heritage for future generations.”

Field Work is the Dream Work

Each morning, Dina and her team gather for a briefing before heading out on patrol. They check their gear, ride muddy trails, and protect vast forest landscapes.

“Every day spent with the team is an enjoyable and valuable experience. There's a sense of pride, a strong bond, and most importantly: there’s meaning in every step we take in the forest that we protect together.”

Dina feels proud of her work, especially when her team stops illegal activities while out on patrol. She loves seeing the direct impact they make– forests getting healthier and wildlife thriving.

“When the condition of the forest improves, there’s no more illegal encroachment, and wildlife poaching activities become more controlled–that’s the moment that gives me immense satisfaction.”

She’s also proud to be a female ranger in a role often held by men, bringing strength, care, and community trust to her work.

Protecting Forests = Protecting Wildlife

Forests and wildlife are connected. One cannot survive without the other. And we must protect both, for healthy, thriving forests and wildlife.

“By protecting the forest, we are also protecting the home of various wildlife species that rely on that habitat for survival. We are safeguarding the continuity of life on Earth.

If we fail to protect both, we will not only lose the forest as a life-supporting system but also witness the disappearance of wildlife, which is an integral part of our biodiversity.”

Thank You for Keeping Rangers in the Field

Your support helps Dina and her team patrol, protect, and preserve these forests and the precious wildlife who call them home.

Please, join me in celebrating these everyday heroes.

Thank you for standing with rangers like Dina. And thank you for standing with orangutans–for being the champion they need to survive.
